It All Started With Helping People Understand Their Options
In the 1980s, Frank Todd began selling Medicare supplement insurance to seniors — many of whom were elderly or recently widowed and overwhelmed by the growing stack of medical bills, insurance letters, and confusing forms in their mailboxes.
Frank took the time to sit down with them and over time, he became more than an insurance agent; he became a trusted advisor and friend.
By the 1990s, one concern came up again and again: the cost of prescription medications.
At that time, Medicare and supplemental insurance plans didn’t cover the costs of prescriptions. Frank’s clients were often faced with difficult decisions — having to weigh the cost of their medications against other essential needs, simply because coverage options were limited and prices were high.
That’s when his son stepped in. He discovered Patient Assistance Programs — resources offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers to help eligible patients get their prescriptions at little to no cost. Together, they began helping Frank’s clients apply, filling out forms by hand and gathering the required documents one by one.
